MATCH FACTS
-Piedmont enters on a 3 game losing streak and dropped their home record to 6-2 with a home loss Wednesday to Covenant College
-Maryville is only 3-3 in conference play but five of their six contests have been decided by six points or less

THE COACHES
Piedmont Coach Greg Neeley led the Lions to match their best start at home in the NCAA era as Piedmont opened the year 6-1 at home before losing to Covenant Wednesday. The victory that started that was the shocker against Emory as the Lions knocked off then 6th ranked Emory inside Cave Arena in the home opener. Piedmont defeated the Eagles 87-85 and in the eight home games so far this season, six have been decided by eight points or less including three that were decided by two points.

Maryville Head Coach Randy Lambert is in his 35th season with the Scots where he also played collegiate basketball and currently ranks as the 6th leading scorer in men's basketball history. Lambert is a native of Maryville, Tennessee where he attended Maryville and later followed his dream to coach in his hometown. Lambert has led the Scots to an 8-9 record this season and an impressive 5-2 record on the road.

SCOUTING MARYVILLE
The Scots enter with the fifth leading scorer in the league in Jaumonee Byrd who averages 15.5 per game. Byrd is a junior who has started in all but one game since the beginning of his sophomore year. A season ago, he averaged 18.6 a game during an 18-8 year by the Scots. Oscar Butler is the third leading scorer on the team averaging 11.1 but ranks second in the league in rebounds per game with 7.8. The Scots are coming off a close loss to Methodist that was anything but close at the half. Maryville led by as many as 19 in the first 20:00 and went in to the half up 42-26 but then were outscored in the second 42-20. Methodist's comeback was in large part thanks to a 19-5 run to open the half that put the Monarchs back in the game.

SERIES RECORDS
This marks the 24th time these two teams have met in Piedmont's NCAA era which dates back to the 2003-04 season. The Scots hold a 21-2 lead in the series over the course of the time these two were in the GSAC and USA South. The first win the Lions notched over the Scots was a thrilling 80-78 overtime victory inside Cave Arena on January 31, 2010. The Lions overcame a seven point deficit with four minutes to play to force the OT. The Lions were able to split their series with the Scots the following year, but that second and only other victory came in the 2010-11 season.

DOUBLE DOUBLE, THE C'S ARE TROUBLE
Chris Meeks and Chase England both had a double-double against Covenant College on Wednesday night as Meeks had his third of the season while England secured his second of the year. England is the scoring leader this season as he has topped 200 points this season and averages 11.9 a game while Meeks ranks fourth on the team in scoring average with 8.5 per outing. Meeks is also second on the team in total rebounds with 6.7 per game and has a team-high 38 offensive rebounds. Meeks currently leads the conference in field goal percentage connecting on 56% of his shots.

LAST TIME OUT: V. COVENANT 69-61 LOSS
After beginning the season matching the best start at home in the NCAA era, the Piedmont College men's basketball team was unable to keep pace with Covenant College after giving up 22 turnovers to the Scots in a 69-61 defeat. The Scots scored 21 points off those turnovers and had twice as many steals as the Lions.

The Lions were led by Chris Meeks and Chase England who both tallied double-doubles in the game. Meeks notched his third double-double of the season with 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds while England had his second double-double of the season with a team-high 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The Scots had the hot hand in the game as T.J. Cox had a game-high 21 points in 25 minutes. Covenant also saw 31 points, nearly half their total, come from their bench players.

NEXT UP FOR PIEDMONT
The Lions hit the road again on February 4 as they take on LaGrange College at 5:30 p.m. The Panthers are currently 9-9 overall and have lost their last three contests. They are an even .500 at home at 4-4 and average 81.2 per game.
