Senior Day Success for Lady Lion Tennis with 9-0 Shutout of Visiting Averett

The senior pairing of Ashley Fannon and Katie Sailors has been one to admire this season as they picked up their 11th win together in 2014 earlier this morning in a 9-0 Senior Day win over visiting Averett University as the two dropped just one game in three combined matches on Saturday.
Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's tennis team got exactly what they wanted to send their seniors out on a bright note at Burgen Tennis Courts, a 9-0 shutout with Averett University coming to town for a USA South matchup.  Seniors Ashley Fannon and Katie Sailors dropped just a single game in three matches between them as the Lady Lions rolled to their 11th win of the season, the most since the 2006 campaign.

In doubles action, Sailors and Fannon won 8-0 over Jewel Dale and Jessie Gomes of Averett as the Piedmont pair moves to 11-6 having played all 17 matches for PC at the #1 doubles position.  Another common pairing, Amanda Blackwell and Nicole Parrish also picked up an 8-0 win at the #2 doubles spot to improve their record to 8-4 in 2014 while a new pairing made their debut as Kelley Miller and Laura Goodwin won at the #3 doubles spot 8-4.

Sailors took a 6-1, 6-0 win at the #1 singles spot as well while her classmate Fannon won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at the #4 singles spot, her first match at the #4 slot this season as she moves to now 14-3 in singles play this season.

Sailors won her 27th individual match since transferring to Piedmont prior to the start of the 2012 season as she has played all 52 of her singles matches at the #1 slot for Head Coach Shane Wood. Fannon meanwhile has put together one of the most dramatic turnarounds in a career at PC having gone now 14-3 this season three years after posting a 3-9 mark her freshman year.

Winning at #2 singles was Nicole Parrish who posted Piedmont's third 6-0, 6-0 decision of the individual portion while her doubles partner Blackwell picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Riley Smith.  The win at #5 went to Miller who took a 6-4, 6-3 win while Goodwin won 6-2, 6-3 at the #6 spot.

The win moves Piedmont to 11-6 in 2014, the program's highest win total since 2006.  With a win tomorrow, the Lady Lions would pick up their 12th tying the 2005 squad's efforts while four more would match the best season in the NCAA era, a 15-win season back in 2004.  PC is also now 8-3 in league play, tied for 4th in the USA South standings.

The Lady Lions will face Greensboro College tomorrow in another home match for PC at Burgen Tennis Courts to wrap up the regular season.  First serve is set for 9:30 am in Demorest.
