Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's tennis team dropped two doubles decisions and three singles matches to fall in a tight 5-4 contest against visiting Covenant College earlier today at Burgen Tennis Courts.  The Lady Lions fall for just the second time in five matches while senior Ashley Fannon saw her eight-match winning streak snapped at #5 singles falling in a tough three-set match.

In doubles action, Piedmont dug a 2-1 hole as Katie Sailors and Ashley Fannon were the lone pair to come away with a win, taking an 8-5 decision at the #1 spot.  The two are now 9-6 as a pair in 2014 as all 15 matches have come at the #1 doubles slot.

Down 2-1 after doubles, PC dropped three singles matches to fall 5-4 in the match though they picked up wins at the #1, #2, and #4 spots in singles play.  Sailors won her 10th singles decision of the year taking it in two at #1 with a 6-3, 6-1 scoreline while Viola Terschluse won in two sets as well, 6-3, 6-2 at the #2 spot.  The remaining singles win came at #4 with Amanda Blackwell doing the damage winning 6-3, 6-1 for her 8th singles win of 2014.

The Lady Lions fall to 9-6 overall with the loss and drop their conference record to now 6-3 as they sit in the 5th place spot of the USA South standings.  However, Piedmont visits 4th place Huntingdon College for an old-fashioned GSAC showdown as the two spent the better part of a decade as conference partners in the Great South Athletic Conference before each made the jump to the USA South.

First serve in Montgomery between the Hawks and PC is set for 4:00 pm Eastern tomorrow afternoon, April 2nd.
