Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's tennis team was behind after doubles play in today's USA South Athletic Conference match against Maryville College, but the Lady Lions rallied in singles action to take a 5-4 match decision over the visiting Scots.  With the win, Piedmont moves to 6-4 in league action climbing up to a top four spot in the USA South standings with four league matches remaining on the conference schedule.

Piedmont dropped two of the three doubles decisions to start off the afternoon as Katie Sailors and Ashley Fannon accounted for the lone win to start the day at #1 singles winning 8-4.  Sailors and Fannon move to 7-4 in doubles play on the 2014 season, the last for the two seniors on the Lady Lion tennis team.

Despite trailing after the doubles portion, Piedmont rallied with four wins in the six singles matches to take the overall match decision in a tight 5-4 score as Ashley Fannon won the deciding point at #5 singles, 6-0, 6-3 over Maryville's Caitlin Jennings.  Sailors won at #1 singles putting on a clinic 6-2, 6-1 as a portion of her match can be seen on the Piedmont College YouTube Channel, or by clicking the image above associated with this story.

Taking the remaining two singles points was Viola Terschluse at #2 singles as she won in three, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 while Nicole Parrish won at the #3 slot 6-3, 6-1 for the rallying Lady Lions.

Piedmont moves to 7-4 overall with the win and also improves to 6-2 in USA South play quietly taking hold of a top four spot in the league standings. 

The Lady Lions will now face in-state foe Oglethorpe University in a home match tomorrow afternoon at Burgen Tennis Courts.  Play in the March 25th showdown is set to begin at 3:30 pm.
