LaGrange, GA - The Piedmont College women's tennis team started off with three doubles wins on the way to a 7-2 overall victory against hosting LaGrange College in South Georgia as the two met in USA South action on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Lions also took four of the six singles decisions en route to the victory, their second victory in the last three matches as both wins have come in USA South play.
Getting the wins in doubles play for PC was the usual #1 team of
Katie Sailors and
Ashley Fannon as they won 8-3 at the top doubles spot.
Nicole Parrish and
Amanda Blackwell were the winning pair at #2 doubles taking the decision 8-5 while
Viola Terschluse and
Laura Goodwin combined to win 8-4 at the #3 spot.
In singles action,
Katie Sailors won in her usual #1 spot knocking off the Panthers' Caroline Brashier in a three-set showdown. At the #2 spot,
Viola Terschluse won 6-0, 6-3 over LaGrange's Blake Alford. Accounting for the remaining two singles wins were
Ashley Fannon at the #5 spot as she took care of Lydia Arflin 6-1, 6-0 and
Laura Goodwin who won 6-3, 6-1 in her singles debut for 2014.
The Lady Lions move to 5-3 overall and improve to an impressive 4-1 in conference play this season. Piedmont will now begin a stretch where the squad plays seven matches in nine days starting with a date at North Carolina Wesleyan College this coming Friday afternoon. First serve in Rocky Mount, North Carolina is set for 3:00 pm.
