Burgen Proves Friendly as Lady Lions Roll to 9-0 Shutout of Visiting Johnson University

Katie Sailors cruised 6-0, 6-0 at #1 singles to help the Lady Lions earn a win in their 2014 home opener as PC knocked off Johnson University 9-0 earlier today.

Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's tennis had no trouble knocking off visiting Johnson University earlier today in the team's home opener as the 9-0 decision favored the home team heavily.  Making their debut at Burgen Tennis Courts in 2014, the Lady Lions took all but one decision in straight sets as the team moved to an even 1-1 on the year.

Winning in 6-0, 6-0 fashion was Katie Sailors at #1, Viola Terschluse at #2, and Nicole Parrish at #3 singles as each took their straight sets decision to give PC three of its nine decisions on the day.  Piedmont's most dramatic match came at the #6 spot as Kelley Miller and Talley Barwick broke a one-set tie with a 10-7 tiebreak decision that went to Miller for her first singles win since joining the Lady Lions this season.

In doubles action, Piedmont dropped only one game with that coming in an 8-1 win at #1 doubles as Sailors and Fannon picked up the win.  At the #2 spot, Amanda Blackwell and Nicole Parrish won their decision by a perfect 8-0 as did Laura Goodwin and Terschluse at the #3 doubles slot.

With the win, Piedmont moves to 1-1 on the year evening their record after a season opening loss to the nation's 15th ranked team in Sewanee on Saturday.  In their next action, the Lady Lions will stay at home to host Ferrum College on February 28th with the USA South opener for Piedmont set to begin at 3:30 pm.  The Lady Lions are 4-1 in their last five home matches dating back to the 2013 season.
