Sewanee, TN - The Piedmont College women's tennis team struggled in their 2014 season opener earlier today falling by a score of 9-0 to the nation's #15 team in the Sewanee Tigers. The Lady Lions will return home with another match quickly on the schedule as they face Johnson University on Monday afternoon for a non-conference matchup to continue the non-USA South portion of the schedule.
Seniors
Ashley Fannon and
Katie Sailors fell at the #1 doubles slot as the two dropped an 8-1 decision as a pair. Sailors and Fannon each also lost their respective singles matches with Sailors falling 6-0, 6-1 at the #1 singles spot while Fannon dropped her decision at #5 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Newcomers
Viola Terschluse,
Laura Goodwin, and
Amanda Blackwell each saw action in the doubles portion of the match with Terschluse and Goodwin teaming up at #3 doubles dropping an 8-2 decision. Sewanee is currently ranked #15 in the nation and will face the #2 ranked Eagles of Emory next weekend.
For the Lady Lions, the next foe on the schedule will be Johnson University who comes to Burgen Tennis Courts this Monday, February 17th for a 2:00 pm afternoon match. Monday will be the season opening match for Johnson whose February 15th match with Tennessee Wesleyan was rescheduled to February 19th.
