Salem Blanked By Visiting Lady Lions

Maria Carter clinched Piedmont's 9-0 win over Salem on the road with a straight-sets win at #5 singles. The sophomore is now 4-6 on the season in singles matches, while the Lady Lions stand at 6-7 overall and 4-2 in GSAC play.

Winston-Salem, NC - The Lady Lions left Salem College with a huge 9-0 shutout win to improve to 4-2 in Great South Athletic Conference play and 6-7 overall.  The women have now alternated wins and losses in the last four matches.  Piedmont's blowout win was the second time the Lady Lions have came away with a clean sweep, also shutting out Wesleyan College on the road Feb. 29.

Piedmont's win was clinched by sophomore Maria Carter at #5 singles, as she took care of her opponent in straight sets, winning 6-0, 6-2.  Carter's win was her second straight singles match win as she is now 4-6 on the season.  Three of PC's four GSAC wins have come on the road.  The women will play host arch-rivals Maryville College in a pivotal conference meeting Monday at 2:00 pm on the home court.
