Tracey Gardner hit tri-fectas as the only points for the men in the first six minutes of play. The NCAA Division II Lions were held scoreless for large portions of time, going four minutes without a basket and then five-plus minutes a bit later in the half without scoring, while the Young Harris offense was thriving on the three ball, sinking nine in the first half alone. The game saw 25 total triples, 13 coming from the home team and 12 by the Piedmont offense.
The Mountain Lions were led by the duo of Frank Adams and Malcolm Jackson, who collected 27 and 25 points respectively. Three others reached double figures in scoring for the home team, who carries a 16-3 record following the blowout win. Josh Haymore and Delaney gave Piedmont new life with consecutive downtown shots, moving the deficit to 17. PC even moved to within 15, but a 9-2 run to close out the stanza left the men reeling, down 49-27 going into the break.
Young Harris picked up right where it left off and then some, shooting 70-percent from the field in the second half alone. Young Harris slowly added to the lead, going up by 27 until sophomore
Kevin Kubandi hit a 3-pointer to make it a 24-point game. However, Jackson added eight straight points as the lead was padded to 33 nearing the midway point in the half.
Sophomore
Kyle Lundberg ended the run with his only long-range basket, but the Mountain Lions again responded strongly with a 10-0 shutout over the next three minutes. Once more Lundberg ended a drought with a jumper to pull within 44, but an 11-2 run in the closing minutes sealed the deal for Young Harris, who contributed a final exclamation point with a thunderous dunk by Bryson Robertson, putting the home team at the century mark as the score was 100-52.
Haymore led the offense with 14 points on four tri-fectas, while Lundberg finished with 13 and an impressive seven assists and six rebounds. Delaney had a pair of 3-pointers as part of his 10 points, while Arnold closed with eight points in the loss. Piedmont moves to 5-15 overall with the loss, and returns to action Saturday at 3:00 pm when traveling to Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC.
