Maryville, TN -- The Piedmont College tennis teams split a pair of matches against Great South Athletic Conference rival Maryville College earlier this afternoon to end the 2011 regular season.  The men took a dominating 9-0 victory for their second straight shutout over the Scots while the women fell 8-1 to snap a two-match winning streak.

Providing the point for the Lady Lions in today's 8-1 loss was the doubles pair of Lauren Hodges and Amanda Christian who took an 8-5 victory at the #3 doubles slot.  The two have now claimed wins in their last two matches and improve their season record as a doubles pair to an even 3-3.

The men's team got off to a fast start taking all three doubles decisions before rolling to wins in all six singles matches as well for their fifth shutout win of 2011.  Newcomer Andrew Babb highlighted the singles winners with a win at #5 singles in straight set fashion 6-0, 6-0.

Babb's win moved his season record to 6-5 on the year while a trio of Lions claimed their tenth singles wins of the season in Christopher Davidson, Jay Evans, and Patrick Steck.  All three get to the double digit win totals in their debut seasons for the Lion tennis program while Steck finishes a freshman regular season that garnered a pair of GSAC weekly honors.

Steck joined his doubles partner Moses Das for a victory at the top doubles slot as well to increase their win total in 2011 to nine, good enough for second best in all the league.

The women's loss drops the Lady Lions to 5-11 on the season while the men's team improves to 9-6 and 4-2 in the GSAC.  The two squads will now gear up for the upcoming GSAC championship tournaments set to kick up on Friday, April 29.
