Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over visiting Great South Athletic Conference member Wesleyan College earlier this afternoon at Burgen Tennis Courts.  The win starts off the PC program at 1-0 in GSAC play as the Pioneers managed to take only ten games off the Lady Lions in the conference match.

Piedmont claimed all three doubles points with little trouble as the #1 pair of Jennifer Granlund and Ashley Fannon cruised to an 8-0 shutout of the Pioneers' #1 doubles group.  Taking an 8-1 victory at the #2 doubles slot was the pair of Lauren Anderson and Amanda Christian while Melody Mitchell and Lauren Hodges rounded out the 3-0 doubles mark with a 8-2 win at the #3 spot.

The doubles win for Granlund and Fannon evens the pair at 3-3 on the season while Chritian and Anderson picked up their first win as a pair in as many tries.  Mitchell and Hodges also picked up a win in their debut as a doubles team moving to 1-0 on the year.

Leading the way in singles play was a pair of Lady Lions who took straight set victories at #5 and #6 singles in Fannon and Mitchell respectively.  At the #3 singles slot, Granlund claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory as her teammate Hodges grabbed a winner by the same scores at #4 singles.

Piedmont's top two singles wins came from Christian at the #1 spot and Anderson at the #2.  Christian won 6-1, 6-0 to record her third singles win in 2011 while Anderson moved to 3-2 in singles matches on the season with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

The win puts the Lady Lions at 3-4 on the season while PC kicks off conference play at 1-0.  Piedmont will get back on the courts for a dual match with the men's team on Friday, April 1 when the programs host in-state foe Berry College for a 3:00 afternoon match.
