Piedmont Tennis Teams Drop Pair Of Home Matches To Covenant

The Piedmont College tennis teams both fell to visiting Covenant College earlier this afternoon as the Lions dropped a 6-3 decision while the women's team was shutout 9-0.

Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College tennis teams dropped a pair of home matches to the visiting Scots of Covenant College at Burgen Tennis Courts earlier this evening. Covenant picked up all nine points in the women's match to take a 9-0 win while also managing to hold on for a 6-3 victory on the men's side of the court.

In women's tennis action, the #1 doubles team of Jennifer Granlund and Ashley Fannon fought hard in the top doubles slot but fell by the eventual score of 8-5. The Lady Lion pair fall to 1-2 on the season with all three matches coming at the #1 doubles slot.

On the men's side, the doubles pair of Christopher Davidson and Justin Gilleland took their point at the #3 slot winning 8-5 to move their record to 5-2 on the season. In singles action, Moses Das played valiantly at the #1 singles slot dropping a heartbreaker 7-6 (8-6), 7-5.

The Lions' pair of singles points came from Patrick Steck and Christopher Davidson at the #3 and #5 singles spots respectively. Steck took his decision 6-4, 6-2 while Davidson gave PC its third point overall with his 6-1, 6-3 victory.

The Lions move to 4-4 on the season while the Lady Lions fall to 2-3 on the year.  Both teams will return to action on Friday afternoon when the programs host a non-conference match as in-state foe Emmanuel College visits Burgen Tennis Courts.  The March 25 match is set for a 3:30 afternoon first serve.
