Lady Lions Net 9-0 Victory Over GSAC Member Wesleyan College

Newcomer Cydney Goodwin helped Piedmont roll to a 9-0 victory over Wesleyan College earlier today with her 6-1, 6-0 singles win to go along with a point at the #3 doubles slot.

Macon, GA -- The Piedmont College women's tennis team earned a second win in the last three matches by blanking Wesleyan College 9-0 earlier this afternoon.  The Lady Lions roared to the shutout victory care of dominating singles and doubles performances allowing the hosting Pioneers to take only 13 of the 96 games played in the afternoon match.

PC took all three doubles points on the day including an 8-0 shutout victory at #3 doubles by partners Cydney Goodwin and Lauren Anderson.  The senior/freshman combo of Jennifer Granlund and Ashley Fannon claimed an 8-1 win at #1 doubles while Lauren Hodges and Amanda Christian accounted for the remaining doubles point.

In singles action, the Lady Lions claimed all six match-ups headlined by Granlund at #1 singles who won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.  Also posting straight sets victories was the sophomore Hodges who won her #2 singles spot to move her season record to 2-1.

Taking 6-1, 6-0 victories at the #3 and #4 singles slots was Christian and Goodwin.  Christian is now 1-1 in singles match-ups while Goodwin improved to 2-1 on the year. Rounding out the singles winners was Anderson at the #5 spot and Melody Mitchell who posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at #6 singles.

Piedmont goes to 2-1 on the year with the shutout victory.  The Lady Lions will get back on the court when they host LaGrange College for a 4:00 match at Burgen Tennis Courts on Wednesday, March 16.
