Montgomery, AL -- The Piedmont College men's basketball team ended its 2010-11 season earlier tonight with 96-74 loss to the Hawks of Huntingdon College in GSAC tournament action.  The hosting Hawks put the clamps on one of the best three-point shooting teams in the league this evening holding the Lions to just 12% shooting from behind the three-point line - well below their season shooting average of 41% from downtown.

In the early going, the action stayed tight between the two middle seed tournament teams as a Kevin Kubandi jumper at the 13:14 make tied the ball game up for the sixth time. Midway through the first half, another Kubandi bucket had once again tied the score up this time notching the game at 20 each.

However, it was at that midway point that the Hawks began to take control going on an 18-2 run over the next four minutes of play bringing the score to 38-23 in favor of Huntingdon. Piedmont could only try to keep pace from that point forward as the hosting Hawks continued to put up offensive numbers taking a 15 point lead into the halftime break.

After the intermission, the Lions could not catch back up with the high flying Hawks who posted 45 second half points to claim a 96-74 victory and a spot in the GSAC title game. The loss ends the Lions' season at 10-16 on the year preventing the team from reaching another GSAC championship game.

Senior Daniel Lampl led three Lions in double figures on the night as he posted 13 points on six of 13 shooting on the evening. In his final game as a Lion, the veteran guard also led the team in rebounding and assists as he pulled down a half dozen boards while dishing out five helpers.

Coming off the bench to shoot well in the loss was the newcomer Kubandi who tallied 12 points on six of nine shooting from the field. Connecting on five of his six field goal tries was sophomore Michael Ross who chipped in 11 points on the day.

Junior shooter Josh Haymore contributed nine points to the effort to go along with a trio of rebounds in the tournament semifinal. Post presence Josh Chapman chalked up eight points shooting four of nine from the field while also collecting three boards.

The loss drops PC to 10-16 on the season as the Lions end their 2010-11 campaign. Despite not moving on in the championship tournament, Piedmont did collect Freshman and Coach of the Year honors on the GSAC's year-end awards list.
