Atlanta, GA -- The Piedmont College men's basketball team was outgunned from the start this evening in a 104-64 road loss at in-state rival Emory University. The 40 point defeat is the largest of the 2010 regular season for the Lions who allowed the home Eagles to shot over 60% from the field and close to 70% from 3-point land.
Emory raced ahead of visiting PC early going on a 21-6 run over the first eight minutes of play to open tonight's contest. The Eagles built on their early 15 point lead shooting 60% from the field in the first half to stay ahead of the Lions 56-30 at the halftime break.
Despite 17 combined second half points from Lions
Michael Ross and
Daniel Lampl, Piedmont could not cut into the home team's large lead as Emory continued to shoot well from the field connecting on 65% of their attempts in the second half. The host Eagles rode their hot shooting to the eventual 104-64 victory, handing Piedmont its seventh loss of 2010-11.
Leading the way for Piedmont in the scoring column was
Michael Ross who collected 15 points on the night shooting six of 14 from the floor. The sophomore transfer added a trio of rebounds to his stat line and connected on both of his tries from the free throw line.
Also scoring in double figures for the visitors was freshman
Will Skaggs and senior
Daniel Lampl who chipped in 10 and 12 points respectively. Skaggs also dished out four helpers while Lampl pulled down four rebounds to lead his team in that category.
The loss drops the Lions below .500 for only the second time this season as the sqaud now sits at 6-7 overall. Piedmont will look to regroup when the team travels to Rome, GA on Thursday, December 6 for a 7:00 evening match-up with another in-state foe in Berry College.
