Montgomery, AL -- The Piedmont College men's basketball team fell for the second time in Great South Athletic Conference play dropping an 83-72 decision to Huntingdon College earlier this evening. In their eleventh road game of the season, the Lions could not overcome an explosive first half from the host Hawks who rode a 16 point halftime lead to the GSAC win.
Huntingdon raced out of the gates to an early 13-2 lead just 2:27 into the game and led by as many as 18 in the first half. After intermission the Lions would respond with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to single digits (52-53) with 11:29 remaining. Another 8-0 run would get the lead down to four (70-66) with just 1:32 to play, but the host Hawks would make 13-16 free throws in the final 90 seconds to secure the win.
Freshman point guard
Will Skaggs posted a team-high 16 points on seven of 12 shooting from the field. Skaggs connected on two of his five three-point field goals while also dishing out five assists and grabbing four rebounds.
Tossing in 15 points to the effort was junior
Josh Haymore who shot 40% from beyond the three-point arc on the day. The guard was a perfect three for three at the charity stripe and added six boards to his stat line.
Senior
Daniel Lampl was the third of three Lions in double figures as he hit 50% of his tries from the field to tally 14 total points. Forward
Tracey Gardner once again led the pack in rebounding pulling down 14 boards to grab double digit rebounds for the second time in the last three contests.
The loss drops the Lions to 8-12 overall and 1-2 in GSAC play. Piedmont will look to rebound when the team hosts Berry College on Wednesday, February 2 for a 7:00 tip-off in the Cave.
