Hawks Hand Men's Hoops First GSAC Loss 87-79

The Piedmont College men's basketball team traveled to Great South Athletic Conference host Huntingdon College this afternoon and fell by the score of 87-79. The loss snaps the Lions six-game winning streak and marks the first blemish in conference play.

PC, now 14-7 overall and 3-1 in the GSAC, will travel to Knoxville, TN on Thursday, February 11th to take on non-conference host Johnson Bible College with tip-off scheduled for 7:00.

In a first half that featured five ties and four lead changes the teams were knotted 23-23 with six and a half minutes remaining. The Hawks ended the period on a 20-12 spurt to take an eight point margin into the locker room.

The Lions fought back to start the second frame and cut the deficit to 56-53 with 10 minutes to go. The home standing Hawks quickly answered with a 12-2 run to lead by a game-best 15 points over the next four minutes.

Despite trailing 79-69 with just over a minute remaining the Lions cut the lead to five but saw Huntingdon knock down four of five shots from the charity stripe to ice the win.

Sophomore Josh Haymore led all scorers with 21 points including a game-best four tri-fectas. Sam Coppage added 20 points while Peter Ricks also reached double figures with 11.

The Lions hit 48% from the floor including 55% from behind the arc and outscored the opposition 35-9 off the bench. The Hawks placed four in double figures and won the rebounding margin 43-28 including 12 offensive rebounds.
