Stormy Petrels Hand Men's Hoops 83-69 Defeat

Senior J.C. Herebia posted 20 points and eight rebounds in the Lions' 83-69 defeat at the hands of Oglethorpe University this evening at Cave Arena.

The Piedmont College men's basketball team fell to visiting in-state rival Oglethorpe University this evening by the score of 83-69. The loss evens the season series with the Stormy Petrels and gives the Lions a final regular season record of 8-4 at Cave Arena.

After the Lions took the lead 17-16 with 12 minutes remaining in the first period the visitors went on a 7-0 mini-run for the final lead change of the evening. After OU led by eight with three minutes left the Lions fought back with six of the final eight points to enter the locker room trailing 37-33.

The home team connected on the first basket in the second half but saw the Stormy Petrels rattle off a 23-10 stretch highlighted by four tri-fectas. The Lions would trail by double figures for the remainder of regulation and were left with the 14-point loss.

Senior #J.C. Herebia# posted 20 points and eight rebounds, both game highs, while Tyler Arnold added 16 points. Senior guards Michael Rubio and Sam Coppage chipped in with nine points respectively. OU placed five in double figures and hit 52% of its shots from the floor.

The Lions, now 15-9 overall, will wrap-up the regular season on Saturday, February 20th as they travel to Maryville College in Maryville, TN starting at 4:00.
