Box Score

Lookout Mountain, GA --
The Piedmont College men's basketball team used three Lions in double figures to skate past the Scots of Covenant College 71-54 earlier this evening on the road.  Shooting over 50% from the floor as a team, Piedmont snuffed out many of the offensive attempts from the Scots as well holding their opponent to just 19% shooting from behind the three-point line.

Early turnovers and road woes allowed the home Scots to open a five point lead four minutes into the game before a Tracey Gardner three-point play and Josh Chapman jumper cut the margin down to just one point.  Minutes later, a Gardner jump shot would give Piedmont its first lead and spark the visiting Lions to go into halftime ahead 33-32.

Thought a Covenant score just a minute into the second half would momentarily give the Scots back the advantage, that one-point margin would be the final lead for CC as the Lions began to open up the floor a run that included a Michael Ross three-pointer to put PC up 48-37 with 12:50 to go.  That 24-6 second half run would be all Piedmont would need to claim the 17-point victory on the road.

Ross led all scorers on the evening using his seven of 13 shooting to collect 20 total points.  On ten of his shooting attempts from three-point land, he connected on six such shots to post his best shooting percentage from downtown this season.

Joining Ross in double figures was a pair of juniors in Josh Haymore and Tracey Gardner who each chalked up ten points a piece.  Haymore collected his points on 50% shooting from the floor while Gardner did most of his damage on the boards dominating the glass for 13 rebounds to once again lead the squad in that category.

Finishing just a single helper shy of another double-digit assist performance was freshman sensation Will Skaggs.  Senior Daniel Lampl also contributed missing a single shot from the field to put up eight points to go along with his trio of boards.

The win moves the Lions to 5-3 on the year.  Piedmont will continue on its seven-game road trip with a journey to Holly Springs, MS to take on Rust College in a 3:00 contest on Sunday, December 12.
