Greensboro's Buzzer-Beater Downs Lions

J.C. Herebia tallied a team-high 13 points in Piedmont's 61-59 loss at Greensboro this afternoon.

Greensboro College's R.J. Smith scored a layup as the horn sounded to give the host Pride an exciting 61-59 non-conference victory over the Piedmont College men's basketball team this afternoon in Greensboro.  Piedmont tied the game on a jumper from #J.C. Herebia# with 4.9 seconds remaining before Smith's heroics.

Piedmont, playing their second consecutive road game against a USA-South Athletic Conference team, jumped out of the gates early with a 7-2 run to open the game.  GC would respond to tighten the game as the team's would trade the lead five times before intermission. 

The second half would again feature four lead changes with the Lions earning a 50-49 advantage on a Tyler Arnold layup with 6:28 remaining. GC then used an 8-1 run to hold a 57-51 advantage with just over 3:00 remaining.  Trailing by two out of a PC timeout, the Lions forced a Pride turnover and scored set up Herebia's game-tying basket with just under five seconds. 

Piedmont was hurt by 19 turnovers and a dismal 1-8 from behind the three-point line in the second half.  GC held a slim 39-36 advantage on the boards. 

Herebia led Piedmont with a team-high 13 points to go along with seven rebounds.  Sam Coppage scored 12 points highlighted by a pair of three-pointers before fouling out.  Mike Chatman added eight points and eight rebounds for the Lions. 

Piedmont will stay on the road with another non-conference tilt at Oglethorpe University on Wednesday, December 2 with tip off set for 8:00 PM in Atlanta.
