Fayetteville, NC - The Piedmont College men's basketball team rallied from an early deficit and held off a late charge from the host Monarchs in a 84-78 non-conference victory this afternoon at Methodist University. After trailing by five at half, the Lions scored 51 second half points for the victory.
Both teams traded baskets early in the second half before Piedmont's
Mike Chatman hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 40. The Lions went on a 8-0 rally to take a lead that they would not relinquish through the remainder of the game. The PC defense held Methodist to only 13 points over the first 13:00 of the second half.
The Lions led by as many as 15 points before Methodist began to chip away at the lead. The Monarchs cut the lead to five on three different occasions in the final minute, but Piedmont's free throw shooting iced the 84-78 victory.
PC placed four players in double-figures led by #J.C. Herebia# and his 20 point and eight rebound effort.
Josh Haymore and
Michael Rubio added 15 and 14 points respectively while
Sam Coppage scored 13 points all of which came from the free throw line in his first 20 minutes of action this season.
Tyler Arnold came off the bench to score nine points as well for the Lions.
The team will continued its two-game road trip against USA-South teams as the squad will travel to Greensboro, NC to take on Greensboro College tomorrow with tip-off set for 4:00 PM.
