In a back and forth game that featured nine lead changes, the Piedmont College baseball team was able to rally in the ninth and tenth innings to overcome non-conferene host Sewanee-University of the South in Sewanee, TN by the score of 8-7. The Lions pounded out 13 hits including four extra base hits en route to the one-run victory.
After Sewanee scored first in the second inning the Lions answered with three runs in the top of the third. The Tigers knotted the score at 3-3 in the fourth and after the Lions took a momentary led in the top of the fifth Sewanee retook the lead in the home-half. PC was trailing by one entering the top of the ninth but an Evan Nissley double tied the score at 7-7. In the top of the tenth Andy House notched the eventual game-winning run with a two-out RBI single.
Nissley led the offense going 3-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI's. House chipped in going 2-6 with two RBI's while Matt Devito and Travis Hunt added a pair of hits each. Tom Dimitroff went five innings of relief to secure his first victory of the season.
The win moves Piedmont to 17-20 overall. The Lions will wrap up the regular-season with a three-game series against visiting Great South Athletic Conference member LaGrange College starting Friday, April 20th at Loudermilk Field beginning at 7:00.
