ATLANTA – With the 2024-25 athletic seasons in the books and the third year of competition in the Collegiate Conference of the South, the final standings for the Overall, Men’s and Women’s Commissioner’s Cups have been announced with Piedmont University retaining the Overall Commissioner's Cup while taking back the Women's Commissioner's Cup after a one-year hiatus.

The Lions tied with new CCS foe Asbury for the overall commissioner's cup so the two schools will share the overall title for the 2024-2025 season.,

The Belhaven Blazers claimed the Men's Commissioner's Cup.

“The Commissioner's Cup represents the depth and dedication of our student-athletes and athletic departments across all sports. We are thrilled to celebrate the continued success of our returning members and the remarkable debut by our newest addition, Asbury University. Their accomplishments speak volumes about the growth and competitive balance of our league.”
Beth Vansant, Commissioner of the Collegiate Conference of the South

Piedmont claimed a total of four postseason titles during the 2024-25 year with two men’s championships and two women's trophies. The Lions turned up the winning when the calendar turned to 2025, with all four postseason titles coming in the spring semester.

Women's Basketball started the spring in strong fashion, claiming a share of the regular season crown before cutting down the nets with its first postseason title since 2019 in the USA South. Women's Tennis was dominant once again in the regular season, running its conference regular season win streak to 49 and its streak of regular season conference championships to seven.

The CCS Commissioner's Cup is awarded annually based on a point system that reflects regular season standings and top four finishes in conference championship tournaments. Institutions receive four points for each conference title, three for runner-up finishes, and 1.5 for third- and fourth-place finishes. The overall award is calculated from the combined results of both men’s and women’s programs.

A ceremony will take place this fall on Piedmont’s campus to present the Commissioner’s Cups.

The awarding of the three Commissioner’s Cups will occur annually following the conclusion of each athletic year.

"I want to congratulate both Belhaven and Asbury for their accomplishments this season in the CCS.  I also want to say thank you to all or conference members for the spirited competition in our league throughout the course of this past year.  To our coaches, student-athletes, and support staff I want them all to know how proud I am for what we have accomplished this year.  Athletics is a great tool to teach the skills of resiliency and overcoming adversity.  The hard work and dedication of everyone was rewarded this season with our women earning the Commissioner's Cup and our entire department sharing the Overall Commissioner's Cup with Asbury.  This group represents Piedmont in a tremendous way by the pursuit of excellence within our department."
Jim Peeples, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics

Clarifying the Tie and Looking Ahead

During the final review of points, the league identified a scoring tie for the Overall Commissioner’s Cup due to co-championships in both men’s and women’s basketball. In previous years, points in these scenarios were split between institutions, and the same approach was used this season. After consulting with regional peers and the CCS athletic directors, the league has agreed to adopt a formal tie-breaking procedure beginning in the 2025-26 academic year.

Awards will be presented to each institution on their respective campuses this fall.
