CHAMPIONS: Piedmont Men's Track & Field Completes Three-Peat at CCS Championship

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Piedmont University men's track and field team completed a three-peat claiming a third straight title at the 2025 CCS Championship Thursday. The win came in dominant fashion with 240 points to second place Asbury's 123. 

With the win, Piedmont remains the only men's track and field champion in the history of the league. 

In total, the Lions had individual wins across seven events including five coming in events that Piedmont owned the top mark on the performance list during the regular season. Of the seven wins, five came on the track with a pair in field events. 

Junior Silas Goolsby was seeded as the favorite in the 200m & 400m and rose to the occasion taking the individual title in the 200m with a 21.81 while claiming the 400m with a time of 49.03. He was the lone Lion to claim multiple individual titles at the championship. 

The men took the 4x100m title as Al Martin, Michael Adewsui, Jimmy Channell and Drey Hudgins ran a 43.08. 

Tucker Cox earned his second straight win in the 3,000m steeplechase running a 10:15.21, a personal best for the senior. 

Also in the distance events, Walker Capelle won the 10,000m running a 32:41.80. 

In the field events, Piedmont won the hammer throw for the third-straight year with a different winner each time as George Ketch claimed the title with a 44.91m mark. In the discus, Matthew Blocksom won with a 41.25m throw as both Blocksom and Ketch entered as the favorites in their respective events. 

In total, Piedmont posted 20 podium finishes across the two days of competition. 

NEWS AND NOTES:
- The Lions had at least one top five finisher in all eight field events.
- Piedmont had at least one top five finisher in all but one track event.
- In addition to his win in the 3k steeple, Cox delivered a PR in the 1500m. 
- Franklin Brown Jr. posted PR performances in the 100m, long jump and triple jump.
