Huntingdon Steals Overtime Thriller In Men's Hoops Regular-Season Finale

The Piedmont College men's basketball team dropped an exciting 91-86 overtime Great South Athletic Conference decision this evening to visiting Huntingdon College in PC's 2005-06 regular-season finale in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center. HC's victory marks their 10th consecutive and gives the Hawks a share of the GSAC regular-season championship.

Piedmont opened the Senior Night contest with a 16-5 run only to see the Hawks claw back to trail by only one (34-33) at the break.

The second half was a back-and-forth battle with no team taking a lead of more than six points and the game featuring 10 ties. Trailing 73-67 with 4:24 remaning, Piedmont mounted its final charge with a 10-4 run for tie the game at 77 highlighted by a transition dunk by Jake Baldwin. PC's Mike Adams' running jumper at the end of regulation fell just short.

The teams traded baskets in overtime with the final tie at 84-84 with 1:26 remaining. From there HC sealed the victory with two consecutive stops and clutch free throw shooting.

Baldwin came off the bench to score a game-high 27 points to go along with seven rebounds. Brent Walker recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six assists and five steals. Adams and Jake Green pitched in with 13 points apiece with Green dishing out seven assists.

Piedmont wraps up the regular-season with a 13-11 overall record and will be seeded fourth in the upcoming GSAC Tournament beginning next Thursday in Montgomery, AL. The Lions will take on fifth-seeded LaGrange College in quarterfinal action with tip-off set for 7:30 CST.
