Lions' Green Holds Last Bullet In GSAC Shootout Victory Over LaGrange

The Piedmont College men's basketball team held the last bullet in an exciting 93-91 Great South Athletic Conference victory over visiting LaGrange College in PC's Johnny Mize Athletic Center. The two teams combined for 105 second half points as the Lions connected on 67% of their shots after halftime including 7-9 from behind the three-point line.

Piedmont controlled most of the first half as the Lions stretched to an eight-point lead on two different occasions only to see LaGrange respond to trail by three 41-38 at halftime.

The second half saw both teams explode offensively with the Lions stretching their lead to 13 points (73-60) with 8:27 remaning. LaGrange again rallied to take their largest lead of the game at 86-83 with 2:48 remaining.

A pair of key three-point baskets by Mike Adams and David Adcock allowed PC to regain a three point advantage with under a minute remaining. LC's Corie Jackson, who led all scorers with a game-high 33 points including 24 in the second half and 8-10 from three-point land, was fouled on a three-point attempt and knotted the game for the seventh and final time with 0:34 remaining.

After working the game clock down, Piedmont's Jake Green penetrated to the basket and hit a game-winning running jumper with just under three seconds remaining for the game's final points. LC's Robby Lawrence's three-point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.

Adams led four Lions in double-figures with a team-high 20 points and rounded out his first double-double of the season with a game-best 11 rebounds. Kyle Kemmerer came off the bench to add 19 points while temmates Jake Baldwin and Green added 16 and 11 respectively.

The victory moves Piedmont to 12-10 overall and 2-5 in the GSAC. The Lions will play the second game of a three-game season-ending homestand on Saturday with a South Region contest with visiting Methodist College with tip-off set for 4:00.
