The Piedmont College men's basketball team opened up its Great South Athletic Conference schedule this evening with a 91-86 league win at LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA. Despite 22 turnovers and 14 less shots, the Lions were able to reach a late double-figure lead before holding off a late Panther charge.
After the hot-shooting hosts jumped out to a 13-5 lead, Piedmont managed to fight back and gain a 10-point advantage 15:00 into the game. Piedmont entered halfime with a 48-42 lead despite a season-high 16 first-half turnovers.
The second-half was all Piedmont as the Lions gained their final lead of the game with 15:10 remaining on a Mike Adams three-pointer. The Lions again stretched out their advantage to 17 points by virtue of a 15-0 run midway through the half punctuated by a Tyler Whitlock break-away dunk.
Jake Green and Brent Walker led five Lions in double-figures with a game-high 16 points with Walker adding a game-high nine rebounds.
Piedmont returns to action on Saturday, January 14th with a home GSAC contest with rival Maryville College. The afternoon includes a men's women's doubleheader beginning at 2:00 with a Coach Charles Cooper Memorial Presentation in between games.
