WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - No. 12 Piedmont men's golf bounced back with a strong second round in a 36-hole Monday at the Sam Snead Collegiate in Williamsburg, Virginia.
After struggling to a 20-over par team score in the morning, the Lions moved up six spots on the leaderboard and comfortably into the top 10 by shooting nine strokes better in the afternoon.
Doug Gugel made a big leap, improving upon a 6-over 77 in the first round to fire an even par 71 in the second round. The junior is knocking on the door of the top 20 after making five birdies in his second round.
Gugel is tied atop the Lions' leaderboard with freshman
Braden Kiley, who opened with a 73 to lead the team in the morning before carding a solid 4-over 75 in the afternoon to help the team move up.
Making his first varsity appearance, freshman
Andrew Dunn improved considerably in the second round, bettering his first round score by five strokes with a 3-over 74. Dunn caught fire early in his round, making three consecutive birdies at one point.
Senior
Adam Rogers was consistent over the day, posting back-to-back rounds of 4-over 75.
Up next, the Lions will take on the final round, beginning tomorrow morning.
