MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Piedmont men's and women's track and field team took a vacation to Myrtle Beach for the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge this spring break.
Piedmont saw several top-10 finishes and personal records.
Bella Caccamo earned herself another school record this weekend in the outdoor 800m. She finished sixth overall with a time of 2:20.36, just beating the past school record by Jaycie Ponce by half a second.
On the women's field side, several women took home new personal bests. In women's hammer throw,
Shealee Gallegos (35.19m),
Kayla Ward (33.74m) and
Anna Belle King (28.64m) all set new PR's.
For men's field,
Bryant Murray placed eighth in the long and high jump while
Franklin Brown Jr. placed 10th in the triple jump.
Matthew Blocksom's new outdoor personal best of 42.21m puts him No. 3 all time in the Piedmont record books for men's hammer throw.
On the track,
Allison Cantrell ran a personal best in the 100m with a 13.05.
Naomi Oti-Wapala set a new personal best by nine seconds in the open 800m taking ninth with a time of 2:41.90. Oti-Wapala also ran a new best in the 400m with a 1:03.77.
Michelle Cates made her season debut in the 400m hurdles this weekend, placing 10th overall, running a 1:08.82.
For the men,
Daeon Neal and
Miles Havis set new personal bests in the open 400m. Neal ran a time of 56.98 while Havis ran 57.45.
Silas Goolsby made an appearance in the 100m hurdles this weekend placing seventh overall in prelims, qualifying for finals with a time of 15.40. Goolsby also ran the collegiate 400m placing fourth overall, running a 48.54, which is just a few milliseconds shy of his personal best. Also competing in the 200m, Goolsby finished second overall running a 21.64, also a few milliseconds shy of his personal best.
Both men's and women's 4x400m relays finished in the top 10. On the women's side, Cates, Caccamo, Payne, & Oti-Wapala posted a fifth-place finish with a time of 4:18.18. For the men, Goolsby, Wiley, Brown and Riggins placed sixth overall with a time of 3:32.43.
Next up, the Lions will head to Emory for their Spring Break Classic meet on March 20-21
st.
