GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Adam Rogers led Piedmont men's golf as it made its fall debut with a marathon 36-hole day at the Gate City Invitational Monday in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The senior Rogers made use of his experience, putting together a pair of solid rounds to sit inside the top 10 on the individual leaderboard.
In Round One, Rogers caught fire down the stretch, making three consecutive birdies to close out his round. In total, Rogers made five birdies and an eagle in his opening round.
However, Rogers' first round of 4-under 68 was not even the best on the team, as junior
Doug Gugel fired a career best round of 5-under 67. Gugel played a bogey free rond and made five birdies to help the Lions shoot a first round team score of 1-under par.
Freshman
Braden Kiley carded a 3-over 75 in his first counting round as a Lion while
Jacob DeJesus delivered a 5-over 77 for the team's final counting score.
Round Two saw Piedmont fall back from fifth to a tie for 10th on the team leaderboard with a 12-over team score.
Rogers hung in with a 1-over 73 that included another eagle on the par-5 4th hole.
Kiley joined Rogers for a team-best 73 in the second round, making 15 pars in a solid round to move into the top 40 on the individual leaderboard.
DeJesus also improved to give the Lions a third 1-over 73 round.
However, Gugel fell back with an 81 in Round Two as Piedmont's final counting score.
Drew Anness delivered non-counting rounds of 83 and 82 on the day.
Sewanee sits atop the team leaderboard with the final 18 holes left, leading Carnegie Mellon by two strokes at -7.
Up next, the Lions are scheduled to tee off with an 8 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday morning.
