2025 PIEDMONT SOFTBALL SEASON RECAP

  • The team was especially dominant at home, going 15-3 at the Walker Athletic Complex.
  • Against a tough schedule, the Lions were up to the task with four wins over ranked opponents.
  • Rookie outfielder Mandi Peretti established herself at the top of the order, leading the team with four home runs and 24 stolen bases.
  • Senior Megan Steinmeyer led the pitching staff and contributed at the plate, tossing a pair of no-hitter including a seven-inning gem in the CCS Tournament opener vs. Asbury.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Lions overcame a two-run early deficit in the first game before roaring back from down 4-0 in game two.
  • The Eagles jumped on the Lions in the early going of game one, scoring once in each of the first two innings against Megan Steinmeyer.
  • However, the senior right-hander settled in strongly from there, allowing just one run and three hits the rest of the way.
  • Piedmont's offense was able to strike for a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings, which was enough for Steinmeyer to close the door and finish off her fifth win of the season.
  • Much like the first game, the Eagles had all the momentum early, scoring four times on seven base hits over the first three frames.
  • However, right-hander Summer McCranie entered out of the bullpen and immediately struck out the first hitter she faced to strand a runner and get the Lions out of the third inning down only 4-0.
  • The offense then came to life in the fourth, with singles by Maddi Spieks, Steinmeyer and Madi Cronic leading to the team's first run. Kasey White then delivered a pinch-hit RBI fielder's choice to make it 4-2. That set the stage for Peretti with two outs and the bases loaded, as the freshman singled home White and Hannah Cintron to knot the score at 4-4.
  • Spieks then led off the fifth with another sharp single and advanced to third on a Steinmeyer double, her fourth hit of the day. With two in scoring position and nobody out, Cintron delivered a sacrifice fly for the go-ahead and eventual winning run before Alyssa Jarrett produced another run with another sac fly two batters later.
  • That was more than enough for McCranie, who was excellent in the circle, going 4.1 innings and allowing just two hits, no runs with one walk and a season-high four strikeouts.

  • Megan Steinmeyer had an outing to remember on senior day with a no-hitter highlighting Piedmont's doubleheader sweep of Agnes Scott. The Lions won 8-0 in the first contest in six innings and took a 15-1 decision in five in game two.
  • Piedmont was able to plate two runs after three singles in the inning to take a 2-0 lead.
  • The Lions added one more in the fourth before a pair in the fifth made it 5-0 Lions. The Scotties' only other base runner came in the fifth after a leadoff walk, but Steinmeyer continued to cruise.
  • Piedmont left no doubt ending the game in six after three runs on five hits in the home half of the sixth to earn the run rule victory.
  • In Game Two, the Lions totaled 15 runs on 16 hits and seven errors as five Lions had multi-hit games. In total, 10 different Lions recorded a hit with Jasmine Lowery going 3-for-4 with four RBI while Alyssa Jarrett also totaled four RBI as she was 2-for-2.

  • The Lions were off to a hot start with a pair of runs in the first inning, jumping on top of Belhaven quickly. Maddi Spieks singled up the middle and Jasmine Lowery drove her in with a triple to left making it 1-0 three batters in.
  • Belhaven was stifled early as Steinmeyer allowed just one hit until the fifth inning. The Blazers scored their first run off an error in the third inning to cut it to 2-1, and in the fifth, a walk and a pair of singles tied the contest at two apiece.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, Madi Cronic singled to start the inning and Jordyn Green was hit by a pitch to put two on with no outs. Heartly Nepveux singled to center field to load the bases and put Mandi Peretti at the plate.
  • Peretti drove one deep enough to center field to bring around Cronic for the game winning run to take the contest in nine innings.

  • In a marathon game, the Piedmont Lions were able to outlast Emory in a slug-fest down the stretch.
  • Piedmont was first on the board in the game after an error allowed Hannah Cintron to score in the second inning.
  • Emory answered back in the fourth to tie the game and that was all the offenses could muster until extras. The game cruised by with a combined eight hits in the first seven innings.
  • Going straight to the international tie breaker, Emory plated a pair of runs in the eighth inning off two hits and a walk to lead 3-1. Piedmont was quick to keep pace with a sac fly by Jasmine Lowery and a double by Megan Steinmeyer tying the contest yet again.
  • It was another two run inning for the Eagles in the ninth as a pair of errors proved costly for Piedmont. Despite the defensive missteps, Maddi Spieks hit an RBI single with the bases loaded bringing up Mandi Peretti who earned a bases-loaded walk to bring across the tying run.
  • Again, in the 10th, Emory was able to get on the board but with just one run, breaking the trend in extras of a two-spot for either side. Piedmont worked the bases loaded before a single out and a flyout to shallow right proved to be the game winner as an error on the throw in allowed the winning run to score.
