USA SOUTH TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: Women's Lacrosse Welcomes Huntingdon for First Round Saturday

DEMOREST, Ga. - The No. 2 seed Piedmont women's lacrosse team is set to welcome No. 7 seed Huntingdon to Demorest for USA South Tournament First Round action.

The winner of that matchup will then move on to the semifinal round to battle either No. 3 seed Methodist or No. 6 seed Greensboro.

Five Lions earned hat tricks as Carson Bezold, Ava Trankina, Aly Reece, Merryn Bumpass and Lovette Choloh all added three goals. 

The Lions posted 26 shots on goal while the Pacers had just one. 

Bezold had three of her six points in the game in the opening 5:30 of play with an assist on the first goal of the game by Bumpass and scored the next two. 

Seven different Lions scoring in the opening quarter and 10 athletes scored in the game in total.

REGULAR SEASON VS. HUNTINGDON 

Piedmont 24, Huntingdon 1 (4/2/25 at Piedmont)

Sophomore Savannah Limehouse delivered a career-high nine points, with her final assist giving her 100 career points in not even two full seasons with the Lions. After scoring seven times in Saturday's win at Pfeiffer, she now has 13 goals over her past two games.

However, it was Laura Crone who led the team in total points, with 10 on five goals and five assists. Her five goals and 10 points each marked career highs for the junior. All-time career assist leader Aly Reece paced the team with six assists on the evening while fellow senior Merryn Bumpass marked the fourth Lion to deliver a hat trick, scoring three times while dishing out three assists and also leading the team with three caused turnovers.

Piedmont left no doubt from the start, scoring three times within the first two minutes and six times in the first five minutes to race out ahead of the Hawks.

PIEDMONT NOTES:
- The Lions were mostly dominant in the regular season, with the team's 8-1 USA South record being the best since the 2018 season.
- Piedmont won all but one of its conference games by at least 16 goals and scored at least 20 goals in six of the team's nine conference contests.
- Aly Reece ranks fourth in the USA South with 40 assists. Earlier this season, she broke the program record for career assists and currently has set a new mark at 143.
- Ava Trankina leads the team in points with 73 this season and sits 15 behind the all-time program record despite playing just three full seasons with the Lions.
- Senior Merryn Bumpass needs just five more goals to break the career program record, held by Alexis Narducci.
- Freshman Ansli Cannon and senior Rachel Verner have split time at goalie, with each coming up with big-time performances during the regular season. Cannon made a season-high 18 saves in a home win over Buffalo State while Verner made 13 saves in a narrow 11-10 home win over Methodist.
