CORDOVA, Tenn. - Piedmont men's golf held tough on a difficult day, finding itself in eighth place out of 18 teams through a 36-hole Monday in Tennessee.
Adam Rogers led the Lions with an even par 72 in the first round while
Connor Lane bounced back in the second round with a 1-over 73 to move up 28 spots on the individual leaderboard into the top 20.
With Piedmont starting in the middle of the back nine as part of a shotgun start, Rogers made double bogey on his second hole of the day but recovered from there, producing four birdies for his round to finish at level par.
Outside of Rogers, Piedmont delivered a pair of 79's and a pair of 80's from the remaining four.
Remo Scholl got off to a hot start, playing his first five holes in even par before a tough stretch pushed him to a 7-over 79.
Jacob DeJesus birdied the par-4 9th hole on his way to also carding a 7-over 79.
Freshman
Elliot Mehler delivered an 8-over 80, along with Lane, who made back-to-back triple bogeys early in his round, but bounced back from there.
After playing his first four holes of the day in 8-over par, Lane played his final 32 holes of the day in just 1-over, pacing the team with a much-needed 1-over 73 as conditions toughened in the second round.
Scholl and Mehler each improved their scores in the second round, as both carded 5-over 77's. Mehler made four birdies in a five hole stretch early in his second round.
DeJesus and Rogers both struggled with rounds in the 80's with the 84 from DeJesus counting towards the team score.
As a team, the Lions were consistent across the two rounds, with a 310 in the first round followed by a 311 in round two.
Babson sits atop the team leaderboard with 18 holes to play, sitting at 23-over par.
Up next, the Lions will look to climb the leaderboard with the final round set for a 10:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun start.
