PINEHURST, N.C. - Piedmont men's golf completed play in the first round of the Tiger Invitational at Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
Adam Rogers led the team in Round One, firing a 1-over 73 to find himself in a tie for 18th on the individual leaderboard midway through the tournament. With Piedmont starting on hole 10, Rogers made birdie on 17 and 18 before making the turn. After a bogey and a double bogey, he rebounded with back-to-back birdies coming home lead the squad.
 
As a team, the Lions delivered four counting scores in the 70's and find themselves in a three-way tie for 11th out of 20 teams competing.
Connor Lane and 
Doug Gugel each carded 3-over 75's with Gugel making all three of his birdies consecutively, on holes 18, 1 and 2.
Lane also made three birdies on his round, highlighted by two in a row on the par-3 16th and par-4 17th.
Jacob DeJesus made three birdies as well, on his way to a 6-over 78.
Caleb Vancil delivered a non-counting 8-over 80.
Methodist leads the team competition at -7, eight strokes ahead of second-place Emory.
The tournament will conclude with the final 18 holes, beginning tomorrow morning. Official tee times have not been posted.
