SAVANNAH, Ga. - Doug Gugel fired his third consecutive par-or-better round to finish tied for fourth as Piedmont men's golf concluded the final round of the Savannah Invitational Tuesday afternoon.

After Gugel opened with an even par 72 and then climbed up the leaderboard with a 2-under 70 in the second round Monday, he delivered another rock solid round on Tuesday, firing a 1-under 71 to finish in the top five and just five shots behind the individual champion.
 

As a team, the Lions were unable to capitalize on the momentum from Monday's second round, falling back to a tie for 17th on the team leaderboard with a 307 in the final round after a 289 in Round Two.

Three of Piedmont's five shot rounds in the 80's, however Conner Lane delivered his best round of the event, a 2-over 74 that included four birdies and was enough to climb 10 spots on the individual leaderboard to a tie for 72nd.

Adam Rogers (80) and Kayden White (82) backed up after solid second rounds to post the final two counting scores for the Lions on Tuesday.

Caleb Vancil carded a final round of 11-over 83.

Washington & Lee took the team title, winning by one stroke over second-place Methodist. On the individual side, W&L's Jonathan McEwen fired his third consecutive under par round, finishing -8 for the event, three clear of the runner up.

Up next, the Lions will head north to Pinehurst, North Carolina for the Tiger Invitational, set to begin this Sunday, March 9.
