DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - Piedmont men's golf is in the hunt after the first two rounds of the West Pines Collegiate was completed Monday evening in Douglasville, Georgia.
The Lions enjoyed a fantastic Monday with three players in the top 12 and two in the top 10 of the individual leaderboard as
Adam Rogers,
Doug Gugel and
Jacob DeJesus played solid golf.
Rogers finished the day under par, with rounds of 70 and 71. The junior from Vero Beach, Florida made a pair of eagles, with one coming in each round and both on the par-5 17th.

Gugel ended the day just one stroke behind, carding rounds of 72 and 70 to finish even par through 36 holes. Gugel made eagle on the par-5 13th on his way to his 1-under 70 in the second round.

Miuch like Gugel, DeJesus picked up the pace with a strong second round, making four birdies for a 1-under 70 as well, jumping into a tie for 12th on the individual leaderboard.

As a team, the Lions fired rounds of 9-over in the opening round but turned up their level of play in the second round, going under par as a team with a 2-under team score of 282.
The turnaround was buoyed by
Remo Scholl, who improved on his first round 78 by seven shots to give the Lions four counting rounds at par or better.
Even as a non-counting fifth round, freshman
Braden Kiley improved his second round score by six, carding a 3-over 74 thanks to a red hot start that included four birdies in his first six holes.
Going into the final round on Tuesday, the Lions trail just two teams. They sit just three behind second place Oglethorpe and 13 shots behind first place Rhodes.
The final round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start tomorrow morning.
