Women's Swimming Begins Fall Season with Home Win Over Columbia

NEED TO KNOW:
Team Scores: Piedmont 175, Columbia 68
Record: Piedmont, 1-0
Piedmont Individual Wins: 9
Piedmont Relay Wins: 2

TALLULAH FALLS, Ga. - Piedmont women's swimming opened its 2025 fall season in strong fashion, taking down Columbia College 175-68 on Saturday afternoon at Tallulah Falls.

Overall, it was a dominant meet for the Lions, as they took first place in both of the relay events and won all but three individual events. In total, Piedmont took home nine individual wins with five different athletes picking up a solo win and seven different athletes finishing first in an event, either solo or as part of a relay team.

The group was led by standout junior Kelly Mashburn, who won three solo events and picked up a win as part of the 200 medley relay team, the first event of the meet.

Mashburn took the top spot in the 50, 200 and 500 free, swimming away from the competition in the 500 to take first place by over 20 seconds.

Newcomer Kayle Buss also stood out on Saturday, enjoying a fantastic debut performance as a Lion with two solo wins while teaming up with Mashburn, Caroline Massaro and Donevin Lakey to take the 200 medley relay.

Buss finished first in the 100 IM and the 50 breast.

Lakey was the only Lion to win as part of both the 200 medley relay to open the meet and the 200 free relay to close the meet. She also picked up a solo victory in the 100 fly.

Continuing her career long domination of the backstroke events, the senior Massaro won the 50 and the 100 back on Saturday while also being a member of the winning 200 medley relay team.

Sydney Addison also added a solo win, taking first in the 100 free while Maggie Robinson and Zoi Walker were part of the winning 200 free relay team to close out the meet.

Up next, the Lions will be back in action at home next Friday, Oct. 10, hosting Warren Wilson at 6:30 p.m.
