GREENSBORO, N.C. - Piedmont men's golf took on the opening round of The O'Briant Jensen Memorial on Monday in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Lions were led by a pair of rounds in the 70's on the team side, while
Elliot Mehler, competing as an individual, delivered the best round of the day, a 2-over 73.
On the team side, Piedmont sits in a tie for 12th place halfway through the 36-hole event, after an opening round score of +31.
Leading the way for the Lions were senior
Adam Rogers and freshman
Braden Kiley, who both delivered 6-over 77's on a tough day for scoring.
The two each made a pair of birdies and sit in a tie for 30th on the individual leaderboard.
Piedmont's final two counting scores came from
Jacob DeJesus (80) and
Remo Scholl (81). Scholl led the team with four birdies on his round, but fell back with five double bogeys.
Mehler was the highlight of the day, as an individual as the sophomore made three birdies on his opening nine and turned in the 2-over 73 to sit in solo fourth place, just two strokes off the individual lead.
