LEXINGTON, Ky. - Piedmont men's golf battled multiple weather delays in its first day of competition for the 2024-25 season.
In what was scheduled to be a 36-hole day in the 54-hole Translyvania Fall Invite, the Lions were on the closing stretch of their opening round before play was halted.
It was a solid start for Piedmont, which sits in a tie for sixth place out of 19 teams competing. On the individual side, senior
Kayden White was in the midst of a great opening round. The senior had a stretch of three consecutive birdies early in his round and is currently 2-under and tied for fourth with just three holes remaining.
Sophomore
Doug Gugel is also under par, making back-to-back birdies on holes 3 and 4 and is through 11 holes in a tie for 12th.
Adam Rogers joined newcomer
Drew Anness with both at +3 while sophomore
Jacob DeJesus is +4.
On the team leaderboard, host Transylvania has raced out to a nine stroke lead at 8-under. However, the Lions, sitting at 3-over, are just two strokes back of second place.
Due to the weather delays, the tournament has been shortened to 36 holes, with the conclusion of the first round beginning at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning, followed by the final round.
