DALTON, Ga. - Piedmont men's golf held steady in second place after the second round of the CCS Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday in Dalton, Georgia.

After opening with a 1-under 71, freshman Doug Gugel remains in the hunt for the individual title, finding himself just two shots back of the lead with 18 holes to play.

Gugel birdied both par-5's on the back nine to come in with a second round of 2-over 74. He is currently in a tie for second place, trailing Huntingdon's Stephen Baker by two while sitting in a tie with the Hawks' Jack Burr.

Adam Rogers fired a 3-over par 75 that included three birdies as the sophomore finds himself in third place, just four strokes back of Baker.

As a team, the Lions trail Huntingdon by just eight shots heading into Wednesday's final round after firing a team score of 301 on Tuesday. The Hawks also fared worse than Monday, backing up 12 shots, with a 299.

It is a two-team race at the top, with Piedmont leading third-place Maryville by 16 shots.

Elsewhere for the Lions, Eric Penland dropped three birdies on his round to tie for the team lead on the day on his way to a 2-over 74, tying Gugel for best on the team.

Connor Lane birdied two of his final four holes to salvage a 6-over 78 for Piedmont's final counting score.

Josh Hebrink delivered a non-counting 7-over 79 with one birdie.

Up next, the Lions are set to tee off starting with Connor Lane at 8:45 a.m. and concluding with Gugel at 9:21 a.m.
