MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Piedmont University track and field program traveled to Mount Berry, Ga. for the Berry Field Day Invitational on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
Senior Cortney Brown became the first woman in Piedmont track & field history to compete in the Heptathlon. In the track portion, Brown placed ninth in the 100m hurdles (17.62), tenth in the 200m (28.11) and eighth in the 800m (2:47.33). On the field event side, she placed eighth in the high jump (1.34m), seventh in the long jump (4.88m) and fifth in the shot put (9.44m). Lastly, in the 800m javelin, Brown secured second with a 34.18m toss.
The duo of sophomore Silas Goolsby and senior Garrett Stadler turned in top ten finishes in the men's 400m hurdles. Stadler recorded a 56.67 for fifth place while Goolsby turned in a 57.74 for eighth place. Stadler also went on to grab a top ten finish in the high jump, placing ninth (1.87m) while Goolsby moved himself into second place all-time in Piedmont history with a third place, 49.05 in the 400m.
On the women's side of the 400m hurdles, sophomore Michelle Cates once again turned in a top ten finish, placing sixth in 1:09.42.
Senior Gary Halverson moved himself into third place all time with a third place finish in the men's 800m. His time of 1:54.71 marks a career best as he was previously fourth in Piedmont history. In the longest event of the meet for the Piedmont men, Halverson placed sixth in the 5000m run with a 15:23.61.
In the women's 3000m steeplechase, sophomore Skyler Seeber recorded a fourth place finish with a time of 12:33.54. On the men's side, freshman Keegan Ivey placed ninth with a final time of 11:20.10.
Piedmont grabbed three top ten finishes in the women's discus, with junior Allie Feltus leading the pack. Feltus claimed third place (37.00m) while senior Nakiyah Washington placed fifth (36.59m) and freshman Shealee Gallegos secured eighth (35.17m). Washington went on to grab two other top ten finishes as well, placing eighth in the shot put (11.67m) and fifth in the javelin toss (33.54m) which moves her to third all-time in the event.
Freshman Brooke Benna turned in a stellar performance in the women's 100m hurdles, placing sixth with a time of 17.33.
In the men's javelin, freshman Ethan Butler-Paige continued to impress, recording an eighth place finish with a best toss of 41.27m.
Senior Kai Doyle placed sixth in the women's triple jump with a best distance of 10.47m.
Up next, both programs travel to Sewanee, Tenn. for the Mount Laurel Invite on Saturday, April 20.
