Rogers Earns Top-10 as Men's Golf Completes Play at Savannah Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Piedmont men's golf team concluded its season-opening tournament on Tuesday afternoon, finishing the second round and then playing the final round of the Savannah Invitational.

The day was highlighted by Adam Rogers' continued strong play, as the sophomore from Vero Beach, Florida put the finishing touches on a 4-under 68 in the second round, before firing a 1-over 73 in the final round to finish T-9th in the event.

Rogers' 4-under 68 in the second round marked his career-best round at Piedmont.

As a team, the Lions dropped back to finish in 11th place out of 19 teams competing in the event. Piedmont fired a 301 in the final round after a 286 in the second round.

Senior Eric Penland delivered his second consecutive solid round, closing with a 2-over 74 after finishing his second round with an even par 72. Penland totaled three birdies in his second round and added two more in his final round.

Freshman Doug Gugel bookended his second round 74 with a pair of 77's to finish T-72nd in the event.

Josh Hebrink made an eagle in his second round for an even par 72 to join Penland and Rogers to give the Lions three par-or-better rounds in the second round. Unfortunately, he dropped back in the final round with a 5-over 77.

Connor Lane back up his opening 73 with a 4-over 76 in the second round and a non-counting 81 in the final round.

Huntingdon's Zachary Coker took the individual title at -11, ahead of a group of three players at -10.

Methodist went low to take the team title at -23, three strokes ahead of Emory.

Up next, the Lions are slated to compete in a B Team event on March 16-17 at the Tiger Invitational in Farmville, Virginia.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
