GREENSBORO, N.C. - Piedmont men's lacrosse scored early and often in a 20-4 road rout of Greensboro on Saturday afternoon in North Carolina.
The Lions left no doubt, scoring the first seven goals of the contest and not letting the Pride crack the scoreboard until late in the first half.
Piedmont took a double-digit lead early in the fourth quarter, but continued to pour it on, scoring nine times in the final quarter.
Brady McGuire continued his excellent senior campaign, scoring four times and adding an assist. Fellow veteran
Michael Anderson added a pair of goals and a team-high three assists.
Isaac Harrington,
Ian Parr,
Joseph Whitmore and
Zach Avila added two goals apiece.
Piedmont goalie
Johnny Matrona tallied five saves and allowed just two goals.
The game was a defensive struggle in the early going, until the Lions struck for a pair of quick goals near the end of the first period as Avila and Parr broke through.
Piedmont then added five more goals in an eight-minute span in the second quarter to lead 7-0 before Greensboro put its first two goals on the board going into halftime trailing 7-2.
The Lions played stifling defense in the third quarter, holding the Pride scoreless while tacking on four more goals to erase all doubt from the outcome.
That left the offense to shine in the final period, as Piedmont continued to pull away with nine more goals to close out the victory.
Up next, the Lions will return home and host Huntingdon next Saturday, April 6 at 3 p.m.
