Men's Lacrosse Falls to Southern Virginia in USA South Tournament Semifinals

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Southern Virginia 16, Piedmont 9
Records: Piedmont, 9-8; Southern Virginia, 9-9

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Piedmont men's lacrosse held close for the first half, but a second half surge from Southern Virginia ended the Lions' season with a 16-9 loss in the USA South Tournament Semifinals on Thursday night in North Carolina.

In a game that mirrored the exact score line from the regular season contest between the teams, the game flow was also remarkably similar.

The Knights jumped in front with a big first quarter, taking a 6-1 lead. However, the Lions were up to the task in the second quarter, rallying back with a 6-2 run of their own to cut the deficit to 8-7 going to the halftime break.

Unfortunately, the second half saw the momentum quickly switch back to the Knights, who reeled off four straight goals to start the third quarter, and held the Lions off the scoreboard until just over a minute left in the period.

One week after being named to the USA South All-Conference Second Team, Josh Tamarkin had another big night for Piedmont, recording a team-high three goals.

Freshman standout Grady Eyler added two more goals to his impressive debut season, finishing with 49 for the season.

Senior goalie Mike Eisele delivered a valiant effort, making 17 saves to keep the Lions in the game.

Piedmont ends the 2026 campaign with a 9-8 record, giving the program a seventh straight winning season.

TURNING POINT:
- The Knights outscored the Lions 8-2 in the decisive second half.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Tamarkin scored three goals, giving him a hat trick in six straight games to end the season.
- Eisele made 17 saves to help the Lions remain in the game in the first half.
