ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - Piedmont men's golf enjoyed a solid second round and moved up the team leaderboard on Saturday morning at the Jekyll Island Collegiate in St. Simons Island, Georgia.

Three Lions led the way with rounds of 3-over 74 while they posted another 75 for a team score of 297, eight shots better than Friday's first round.

Round Two has not yet been completed for all teams and will resume Sunday morning, followed by the final round.

After firing a 1-under par 70 on Friday, Josh Hebrink struggled out of the gate in the second round, going out with a 41 on the front nine before roaring to life coming home, making three birdies on his inward nine to salvage a 3-over 74 round. Hebrink sits T-21st on the individual leaderboard with many players still having holes to complete for their second rounds.

 

Connor Lane mirrored Hebrink's round, finishing strong for a season-best 3-over 74. Lane went out in 40 but came home in 34 on the back nine, making three birdies over his final four holes of the day.

 

Adam Rogers bounced back from an opening 80 to post a 3-over 74 as well. The sophomore started hot by making three birdies on a 2-under 34 opening nine before a back nine 40 pushed him over par to a 3-over 74, joining Hebrink and Lane to top the team.

 

Finally, Eric Penland carded a 4-over 75 for Piedmont's final counting score. Freshman Doug Gugel made a pair of birdies but also two triple bogeys on his way to a 79.

Up next, the second round will resume on Sunday morning followed by the final round. The Lions are currently in a tie for 20th out of 30 teams.
