GREENSBORO, N.C. - The No. 10 Piedmont men's golf team completed the first two rounds of the Gate City Invitational on a beautiful Monday in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Lions were led by newcomer
TOM YAO, who delivered a solid 1-over 72 in the second round, the best round on the day for Piedmont.
Â
Piedmont delivered a first round team score of 308 but improved by eight strokes in the afternoon to post an even 300 and sit in 15th on the team leaderboard.
With firm and fast conditions, Piedmont struggled out of the gate, with
ADAM ROGERS pacing the team with a 3-over 74 in the first round. Rogers made just one birdie, but 13 pars held his round near even.
Â
After Rogers, the Lions counted a 76 from Yao and a pair of 79's, from
JOSH HEBRINK and
CAM LUCAS, while
JACOB DEJESUS added a non-counting 80.
The second round saw Yao get off to a hot start, as he made birdie on his 3rd hole, the par-3 10th, and then added two more birdies to come in with the 1-over 72 to sneak inside the top 35 on the individual leaderboard.
Â
Rogers led the team with four birdies in the second round. However, he made three double bogeys on his way to a 5-over 76.
Hebrink (74) and Lucas (78) each improved in the second round, while DeJesus made the team's lone eagle on the day, coming at the par-5 18th.
Oglethorpe leads Emory by one shot with 18 holes to play.
The event is scheduled to conclude tomorrow, September 19, with another shotgun start.
