DEMOREST, Ga. - After earning an NCAA Tournament bid for the second straight season, the Piedmont women's tennis team is set for a showdown with Sewanee with the match scheduled to start on Friday, May 5 at 12 p.m.
The Lady Lions will take on the 12th-ranked Tigers in Lexington, Virginia on the campus of Washington & Lee University as part of a seven-team regional that also includes Emory, Washington & Lee, N.C. Wesleyan, Transylvania and Case Western.

Piedmont 5, Covenant 1 (4/29/23 - CCS Tournament Final in Rome, Ga.)
The Piedmont women's tennis team won its second consecutive conference championship, besting Covenant 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in Rome to win the inaugural Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament.
Although the Scots pushed the Lady Lions in doubles, taking a point off the Lions, Piedmont responded with a dominant effort in singles play, clinching with three straight-set wins at No. 4 through No. 6 while also taking the first set at No. 1, 2 and 3.

The Piedmont women's tennis team suffered just its second loss of the season, falling at No. 10 Sewanee, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Lions battled but fell in all three doubles matches as the Tigers won all six singles lines in straight sets as well.
ALYSSA MCSPADDEN and
ABBEY GRACE VENHAM put up the toughest fight in doubles, losing 8-3 to the ranked doubles team of Emma Smith and Nicole Nowak.

PIEDMONT NOTES:
- The Lady Lions have won the conference tournament in two different conferences in back-to-back years, taking the 2022 USA South Title before winning the inaugural Collegiate Conference of the South championship this season.
- Piedmont was well represented in the conference's end-of-season awards as
ABBEY GRACE VENHAM was named CCS Player of the Year while head coach Trey Martin was named CCS Coach of the Year. The win marked the second time in three seasons that the Lions have taken home top honors by a player and Martin.

- McSpadden was named CCS Tournament MVP and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Wilkes and Laidman, who won the clinching singles match in tthe final.
SEWANEE NOTES:
- The Tigers enter the tournament with a 17-5 overall record and a 7-0 mark in the SAA.
- Sewanee won the SAA Tournament with three dominant 5-0 victories.
- The Tigers also dropped just two total lines to conference opponents all season.
- In the all-time series between the teams, Sewanee owns a perfect 14-0 record.
