BOULDER CITY, Nev. -
Josh Hebrink fired a final round 67 (-5) to lead the Piedmont men's golf team to its best round of the fall, as play concluded at the NCAA DIII Preview on Tuesday afternoon in Nevada.
Hebrink delivered his best round of the fall and best round since the final round of last season's NCAA DIII Championship, making five birdies and an eagle against just two bogeys to vault the Lions to an under par round and himself into a T-41st finish.
Â
As a team, the Lions delivered an even par 288, the best round of the team's fall season.
In support of Hebrink was
Adam Rogers, who paced the Lions on the individual leaderboard, collecting a T-21st finish. The sophomore from Vero Beach, Florida birdied three of his first four holes of the day on the way to an even par final round.
Â
Senior
Eric Penland also delivered his best round of the fall, coming in with a 2-over 74 for a T-58th finish.
Â
Freshman
Tom Yao remained steady, but improved by a shot each day on the way to a finishing 75.
Â
Cam Lucas delivered a non-counting 83 in the final round.
The Lions ended the way where they began, finishing 14th out of 18 teams competing.
No. 1 Methodist ran away with the team title, finishing 25 strokes clear of second-place Carnegie Mellon.
The event concludes the fall season for Piedmont.
FROM THE COACH:
"Yesterday was a day that we didn't expect. Nowhere near our expectations or standards, and we knew that. Teams can either live with that and let it be negative or use it as fuel. Today, we used it as fuel and played with pride.
This is a huge turning point for us going into the spring. We know we can do it, now it's about building off of this.Â
Josh was the most comfortable I've seen him on the course, and when he's comfortable we are a different team. I think now that he finally did it, and understands how he did it, that energy and confidence is back. It juiced our guys up - we stayed patient and finished the rounds off.Â
That's what good teams do. Good isn't great. So as we head into the break, we will be evaluating how do we get to the next level."
