ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Piedmont women's swimming team cruised to two wins on the day over Warren Wilson and Greensboro in double dual action.
Caroline Massaro,
Olivia Smith,
Sydney Addison and
Kelly Mashburn led of the day by winning the 200 yard medley relay. The group turned in a combined time of 2:03.64, nearnly eight seconds faster than the next team.
Lauren Stone then kicked off the individual events with a win for the Lady Lions in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:46.55). Freshman
Kelly Mashburn followed directly after with a win in the 200 yard freestyle (2:07.35). Later on in the meet, Stone once again secured a win, this time in the 500 yard freestyle (6:04.79).
The string of Piedmont wins continued to grow as Massaro turned in a 1:05.76 in the 100 yard backstroke for the win. She also won the 200 yard backstroke later in the day with a time of 2:23.95.
Freshman
Sydney Trafton then secured the win in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:20.37), narrowly besting senior
Lizzie Arrendale by just under a second (1:21.22). She grabbed her second individual win as well in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:53.38).
Addison picked up her individual win on the day in the 50 yard freestyle (28.42) as sophomore
Jenise Waithe grabbed second place (29.50). She then went on to claim her second win in the 100 yard freestyle (1:02.40), this time out touching a Greensboro swimmer by just over half a second. With the job unfinished, she secured her third win of the day in the 100 yard butterfly (1:08.91) as junior
Olivia Bechtel placed second (1:11.61).
Rounding out the day, Mashburn, Waithe, Massaro and O. Smith picked up the 200 yard freestyle win for the Lady Lions in 1:53.80.
Up next, Piedmont will travel back to Asheville once again next weekend on Saturday, October 28 for another double dual.
