DEMOREST, Ga. - Head softball coach Terry Martin has announced
MADISON WHITESIDE will return to Piedmont as assistant softball coach. Whiteside is a 2021 graduate of Piedmont and was a key contributor for the Lady Lions during her softball career.
"It is my honor to return to the place that was my home away from home," Whiteside said. "Piedmont is a place that helped me become who I am today. I can't wait to give back to the sport and help our student-athletes reach their full potential on and off the field.
"Also, I can't thank Coach Terry Martin enough for giving me this opportunity and for believing in me as a coach as much as he did when I was his player."
Whiteside will be tasked with leading the pitching staff after her own collegiate pitching career. She was a three year starter for the Lady Lions with a 16-7 record in the circle. She totaled 42 appearances and 29 starts over her career.
In 2019, she saw the bulk of her work with over 100 innings pitched while making 18 starts. She also totaled six complete games and a pair of saves as a sophomore.
She was a member of two NCAA regional teams as the Lady Lions made NCAA tournament appearances in 2019 and 2021. In 2019, the Lady Lions reached the regional final against Emory University as the regional hosts at Walker Athletic Complex. She also earned a USA South Tournament title in 2021 as Piedmont claimed the title at home with a best out of three series win over N.C. Wesleyan.
"We are thrilled to bring Madison back to our program as our pitching coach," Martin said. "Having been brought through our system as a student-athlete, her perspective is invaluable. She will continue to help elevate our program to new heights and we look forward to getting to work."
Outside of the collegiate landscape, Whiteside has served as a travel ball coach since graduating in 2021 working with 14-15 year olds. She also has given pitching lessons since 2019 working with all levels from beginner to experienced athletes.
Whiteside earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Piedmont in 2021. She will assist head coach Terry Martin in all aspects of the softball program.
